How & Where To Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day In Sacramento

St. Patrick’s Day comes but once a year, and whether you’re Irish or not, you deserve to celebrate! Ironically, St. Patrick himself was a Brit, so don’t let your heritage stop you from enjoying everything Sacramento offers on and around March 17th.

If you don’t have plans yet and are still looking for the best places to go, you’re in luck. Check out these suggestions for a fantastic time in the so-called “City of Trees.”

Visit the Downtown Pubs

Just because we are Elk Grove's Best Escape Room Doesn't mean we don't know how to do other fun things!

Are you of age and looking for a way to taste test Sacramento’s finest ale this weekend? Plenty of places downtown are offering “Pub Crawl” events. See what’s on tap at The Other Office, Sports Corner Cafe, SKY KTV or O’Mally’s Irish Pub. Just don’t forget to temper your libations with some tasty treats. Try a Reuben brimming with corned beef or opt for buttered soda bread sweetened with raisins. Who could think of a better excuse to spend time out with friends?

Escape With Some Mental Games

St. Patrick was an educated individual, so we assume he’d appreciate the opportunity to sharpen his mind. You can do likewise by coming to Exit Strategy Games for a little sleuthing and clue-cracking. Our numerous escape rooms allow you to get a taste of the thrilling life of a detective without having to leave your hometown. Expect the unexpected when you bring together your friends or family for a day of spectacular fun.

Watch the St. Paddy’s Day Parade

Each year, thousands of visitors flock to the streets in Old Sacramento to enjoy a Northern California must-see: The Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Plan to be whisked away by the sounds of bagpipes, a military march, Irish dancers and tons of other folks ready to entertain you from beginning to end. The Parade route starts at Neasham and Front and continues throughout the historic streets of town.

Head to a Fundraiser

Many groups use St. Patrick’s Day as a launch for raising much-needed funds. For instance, The Fountainhead Brewery is hosting a ticketed event and a portion of all beer sales to the Oak Park Farmers Market supported by NeighborWorks Sacramento. Have a favorite charity that you regularly love to give to? Check their website to see if they might be offering a March 17th special to get you partying and feeling good, too.

Take a Run in Folsom

Folsom is a hop, skip and jump away from Sacramento… or a run, in this case. Folsom’s offers everything from an ultra-marathon to a 5K trail run on March 17th beginning in the morning. Grab your favorite pair of Nikes, Brooks, Hokas or other racing shoes and hit the pavement before heading out for a night of shamrock-filled enjoyment.

If nothing else, be sure that you spend St. Patrick’s Day the way we’ve been doing in America since the first Go Green bash in the early 1700s. Boston may have been the initial site for leprechaun liveliness, but we’re ready to rock in northern California!
