Frequently Asked Questions

Most Frequent Questions & Answers

What is an escape room?

An escape room is a fun exciting indoor game. Players get placed in a themed room for about an hour. They search for clues and solve puzzles, work together and try to escape before their time is up!

Will people jump out at me?

No

Is it like a haunted house?

No. The Butcher’s Torture Chamber themed room does have a haunted house feel to the set design of the room. However, there are no actors jumping out at you. The elements in the room are meant to intrigue rather than scare you. Our Spy vs Spy escape room is a 70’s inspired room and is not meant to be scary at all. Although there might be a few startling sound effedts.  Hide and Squeak, a Squirrel Adventure is kid friendly. Woodbury’s Wizarding School is as scary as other famous wizard movies, but does not have a haunted house feel.

Will it only be me and my friends/family in the escape room?

YES! We only offer private games. All games booked will just be you, your friends, and your family.

How many people can play the game?

Our Standard games, The Butcher’s Torture Chamber and Hide and Squeak, can be booked for 2-12 players per game. The Butcher’s Torture Chamber requires 2 players to physically play the game. Our Premium game Woodbury’s Wizarding School can be booked for 2-8 people and physically requires 2 players to play the game. Our other Premium game Spy vs Spy can be booked for 4-12 people and physically requires 4 people to play the game.

Can I have a birthday party there?

We welcome players celebrating a birthday! Happy Birthday! While we’re NOT set up to serve cake and ice cream, nor do we have a party room, we are still a birthday stop favorite. Most people come and play their escape room with us and then go out to pizza and/or ice cream afterwards.

How old do you have to be to play?

It is up to the parent or legal guardian to decide if their child is mature enough to handle the room, and the subject matter of the games. We have had players of all ages play our games. See our recommendations below.

We recommend 13 and up for The Butcher’s Torture Chamber, Woodbury’s Wizarding School, and Spy vs Spy. We recommend 8 and up for Hide and Squeak a Squirrel Adventure.

The Butcher’s Torture Chamber: Our recommendations are based on the fact that because it is a serial killer escape room,  it is a gory themed room and it’s better to have older players in there. We don’t want to scare the kiddos!

Woodbury’s Wizarding School: We recommend 13 and up because it has some dramatic effects that could startle young players. The set design is appropriate for all ages.

Spy vs Spy: We recommend players 13 and up because there are a few very complex puzzles in there to solve, flasing lights and loud noises.  The set design is approriate for all ages.

Hide and Squeak, A Squirrel Adventure: We recommend 8 and up because it is kid friendly. However, many puzzles would be too complex for children that age, so there should be (but it’s not required) at least one adult player when players are aged 12 and under. Players 13 and up could easily play alone. The set design is approriate for all ages.

Do you have any more rooms?

Unfortunately we only have the four rooms in Elk Grove, CA.

Can I cancel the booking I made?

We do not allow refunds of any kind. You can cancel your booking but you will not receive a refund. We do however, allow you to change the time and/or date of your booking up to two days ahead of your scheduled booking date and time. When the purchaser of a game agrees to our terms and conditions, they agree that there are no refunds. This insures that we properly staff our games and that you don’t take up spots that could be sold to another group of people. We often sell out days ahead of time and every week we turn away about 20-30 players because of this. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding regarding our strictly enforced refund policy policy.

Do you have additional game times outside of your open hours?

Yes! Check out our Private Escape Room Venue pricing under our book now section. Contact us for availability for one of our Private Escape Room Venue dates and times.

You are open today, why won’t your website let me book a game today?

IF YOU CAN BOOK IT THROUGH OUR WEBSITE, WE’RE OPEN AND AVAILABLE AT THAT TIME.

If you can’t book it through our website we might be unavailable for various reasons.

Our Google business page typically has our current hours, but sometimes Google does not update or reflect our availability accurately.  Our Book Now availablity is the best reflection of our availability.

Some holidays we are closed and some holidays we are open additional hours. If you’re still experiencing issues we are either fully booked or you are outside the time frame to book online which is 5-30 minutes during normal hours and up to 24 hours for our special bookings.

I want to book a game during your regular business hours, but I don’t feel like booking it online, can I call you and just have you do it for me?

Maybe? We try to answer every call we get during non-business hours asap. This means sometimes we’re in the car (Bluetooth! no worries), at the store, getting pedicures, working our day job etc. We want to answer any additional questions asap so we try to answer calls immediately. However, we’re not always at a computer when you call and you may have to wait for us to book it for you, this means someone else could take your time slot. The absolute fastest way to book a game that will be scheduled during our normal business hours is to go online and book it yourself.

Do you take walk-in appointments during your normal business hours?

We don’t recommend attempting a walk in appointment, but it’s theoretically possible. Often, we have back to back booked games with no availability. Every now and then we have large gaps between booked games, and in those cases we’ll close up shop and give the employees a break for a few hours. If you walk in, at the perfect time, and we happen to have an open time slot, we will of course let you play the game! It’s just hard to find that magical time slot without booking ahead of time.

Which Room is Harder/Better?

Hide and Squeak, A Squirrel Adventure is our easiest game but is still a medium difficulty. Next we have Spy vs Spy, this game is slightly harder than Hide and Squeak, A Squirrel Adventure, but still a medium difficulty. Spy vs Spy has one of our most complicated puzzles in the entire establishment, but the rest of the puzzles are fairly straight forward. Then we have our Woodbury’s Wizarding School which is our next hardest game, but would be rated medium/hard. Then we have The Butcher’s Torture Chamber, which has a hard rating and is our most difficult game. The game is a split start room that relies heavily on communication and attention to detail.
